Informatician | Intrepid Semanticist
I am a Nurse Informatician supporting local, regional, and national multi-site implementations of information technology, terminologies and data standards in human and population health research. I am excited by working with teams representing diverse clinical and technical background to achieve creative technical and data solutions which result in knowledge discovery as well as improved personal and population health. Over the past three decades, I have had the privilege to support projects that advanced the field of health IT through technology innovation, standards development (HL7, IHE, SNOMED CT), structured content and application development for a commercial software vendor (Cerner) and research data alignment among large, multi-site research partners (DCRI, CICTR, UCReX). Most recently, I have supported technology innovation and data alignment projects for the Duke Clinical Research institute, including the NCATS Trials Innovation Network, Pediatric Trials Network and the Pew Foundation Interoperability initiative. I have been an active member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) for 25 years, serving in numerous roles in generating knowledge via the peer-review process. Currently I am honored to participate as the Vice Chair for Data Sciences for the AMIA 2019 Informatics Summit. I have an avid interest in the application of 3D data modalities in health delivery and to reduce clinician cognitive burden, and toward this end have had an active role in developing a partnership between HL7 (hl7.org) and Web3D (Web3D.org) Extensive experience in healthcare systems analysis, software applications and health information system content development including data harmonization; semantic model alignment; terminology mapping; structured terminology; health data standards development; management, business and clinical process modeling; research functional specification development; market research; strategic market and competitive analyses
