Description

Abstract: Rigorous comparative effectiveness studies for the treatment of purulent and non-purulent SSTIs depends on the ability to accurately distinguish between these distinct infection types. The specificity of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, codes for purulent and non-purulent infections has not been established. We aim to evaluate the logic to support inference of purulence based on SSTI descriptions, and identify exclusionary scenarios missed by ICD-10 billing codes.

Learning Objective 1: To determine the logic to support inference of purulence based on SSTI descriptions
