Abstract: Clinicians struggle to find relevant information as the volume of information in EHRs grows. Ideally, we could identify important information, and present that information to clinicians. We analyzed physicians’ use of flowsheet information-types as they made clinical diagnoses, and found ‘important information’ difficult to identify. Instead, information use varied across physicians and patient cases. This suggests that EHR displays must account for variation in information needs by individual and context.
